Trevor Etienne, the former Florida running back who joined Georgia’s football program during the offseason, has encountered legal issues in Athens. He was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning and now faces charges of DUI, reckless driving, and two other misdemeanors.
According to reports, Etienne was booked into the Athens-Clark County jail at 4:35 a.m. and was released on bond within an hour. The specific charges against him include DUI/alcohol/less safe, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane/improper driving on road, and affixing materials that reduce the visibility of windows/windshield.
As of Sunday morning, no further details about the incident have been released. It is possible that Georgia may impose a suspension on Etienne as a consequence, potentially affecting his participation in their season opener against Clemson on August 31, 2024.
While Georgia has experienced multiple driving-related arrests during head coach Kirby Smart’s tenure, the most recent known incident occurred last summer. Notably, Jalen Carter, a member of the 2022 Georgia national championship team, was arrested on DUI charges as part of a series of nine driving-related arrests within a 13-month period.
Etienne had a successful season as a sophomore at Florida, finishing as the team’s second-leading rusher with 753 yards and eight touchdowns on 131 attempts. He was expected to play a prominent role as Georgia’s featured running back and was one of the notable transfers to join the team during the offseason.
