Sheffield Wednesday have been told of one factor that could have prevented a relegation battle this season.
Sheffield Wednesday have endured a turbulent year, having won promotion to the Championship in spectacular fashion only ten months ago.
The Owls looked set for another crack at steadying the ship in the second tier, however things took a dramatic turn at Hillsborough when the club confirmed that manager Darren Moore had left the club my mutual consent in June, with Dejphon Chansiri failing to come to an agreement on a new contract.
The 49-year-old’s exit led to Xisco Munoz’s appointment, who then guided Sheffield Wednesday to eight defeats in his opening ten games.
Danny Rohl‘s arrival saw an uplift at the club and they now sit in a much better position as when Munoz left, though they still remain a point from safety at the bottom of the table.
Despite the German’s success, The Star journalist Joe Crann has claimed he is ‘certain’ the side wouldn’t be in the relegation zone under Moore.
After a fan asked Crann: “Why are people so happy that Darren Moore is struggling?”… Crann wrote on X: Some people also seem to think that taking over already struggling sides with a squad built by somebody else is the same as building on one that you built and that had momentum… I’m almost certain #SWFC wouldn’t be in the bottom three now. But we’ll never know.”
Would Darren Moore do a better job than Danny Rohl?
Darren Moore had endured his fair share of criticism as Sheffield Wednesday tried to climb out of League One, but the miraculous promotion would have definitely ensured they had plenty of momentum and positivity heading into the current campaign.
There is no guarantee that the Port Vale coach would have guided the Owls to success, but he would have had a whole pre-season, a whole transfer window and a positive relationship with the players that would have allowed him a good chance at keeping the club up.
That isn’t to say that he would have done a better job than Rohl though, because we all know that if the 34-year-old was handed the keys in the summer, then the club could have been much higher in the table right now. In fact, the Owls would sit 13th in the Championship table if the season begun when he was appointed.
But Moore’s presence and Rohl’s early arrival is all hypothetical and Sheffield Wednesday are where they are now whether they like it or not.
One thing is for sure though, the hate towards Moore now makes no sense. He didn’t do anything wrong at Hillsborough and his exit has left us with Rohl, so if he can keep us up this term, then we could well be in a much better position.
