On March 13, it was reported that the Los Angeles Rams were actively seeking defensive line assistance. However, one of their primary targets has chosen to join an AFC team instead.
According to information from Chris Tommason of the Denver Gazette, the Rams had displayed significant interest in defensive tackle Malcolm Roach since the legal tampering period began on Monday.
Regrettably for L.A., Roach made the decision to join the Denver Broncos, where he is expected to sign a two-year contract worth $8 million.
The Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, and Arizona Cardinals were also reportedly highly interested in acquiring Roach’s services.
MARCH 9: DEPTH TRIO BECOMES FREE AGENTS
On Saturday, it became evident that the Los Angeles Rams’ depth would be impacted as three key members of the front seven hit the open market. Edge rusher Michael Hoecht, linebacker Christian Rozeboom, and defensive lineman Jonah Williams, who were restricted free agents, were not tendered contracts, as reported by Jourdan Rodrigue. While Rozeboom stood out with 79 tackles despite limited starts, the Rams will now focus on replenishing the lower end of their roster through affordable options and the upcoming NFL Draft.
MARCH 7: KEVIN DOTSON RE-SIGNS
Los Angeles Rams’ right guard, Kevin Dotson, was set to become a free agent following an impressive breakout season. However, General Manager Les Snead ensured Dotson’s continued presence in Inglewood. Dotson signed a three-year, $48 million extension, positioning him among the top players in his position but not setting a new market standard. With an average salary of $16 million per year, he is being compensated as one of the top performers at his position, as proven by his excellent performance in 2023, where he ranked as Pro Football Focus’ second-best lineman based on their offense grade. The Rams have the flexibility to part ways with Dotson after two seasons if necessary, allowing them to make room for a potential Steve Avila extension.
MARCH 7: ALARIC JACKSON TENDERED
The Los Angeles Rams are committed to maintaining stability on their offensive line for the 2024 season. They have tendered Alaric Jackson, although the specific tender level has yet to be determined. The right of first refusal tender carries a value of $3 million, while a second-round tender is set at $4.89 million and a first-round tender at $6.82 million. Regardless, the Rams have the option to retain Jackson or receive corresponding draft pick compensation for his services, unless he is only given the right of first refusal tender. Jackson is projected to be the starting left tackle if he returns, which could potentially impact Joe Noteboom’s place on the roster.
FEB 28: COLEMAN SHELTON VOIDS CONTRACT
Before the start of free agency, Rams center Coleman Shelton has taken a proactive approach to ensure his involvement in the proceedings. Shelton has voided the final year of his contract after meeting a playing time incentive. This situation places the Rams in a delicate position as they had already released center Brian Allen. Nevertheless, the Rams have expressed their desire to have Shelton back, albeit at a higher cost than initially anticipated at the beginning of the year.
