The Jacksonville Jaguars have added to their draft capital for the 2024 NFL Draft, as the league announced the awarding of compensatory selections. The team has received the No. 96 overall pick in the third round and the No. 212 overall pick in the sixth round.
Compensatory selections are granted to teams based on a formula that takes into account their gains and losses in free agency from the previous offseason. In this case, the Jaguars were awarded the No. 96 pick for the departure of right tackle Jawaan Taylor, who joined the Kansas City Chiefs. The No. 212 pick was granted due to the loss of pass rusher Arden Key, who signed with the Tennessee Titans.
Out of the 34 compensatory selections announced by the NFL, the No. 96 pick is the highest for the Jaguars. With these additions, the team now possesses a total of nine selections for the upcoming draft. They have one pick in each of the first three rounds (No. 17, No. 48, and No. 96), two picks in the fourth round (No. 113 and No. 115), one pick in the fifth round (No. 152), two picks in the sixth round (No. 192 and No. 212), and one pick in the seventh round (No. 236).
It’s worth noting that some of the Jaguars’ original selections have been retained, while others have been acquired through trades. The status of their second-round selection is uncertain at the moment. If the team re-signs wide receiver Calvin Ridley before the start of the 2024 NFL League Year, they will relinquish their second-round pick to the Atlanta Falcons and regain their original third-round selection. Failure to sign Ridley in time would result in the Jaguars keeping their second-round pick while Atlanta retains their original third-round selection.
