The Chicago Bears have expanded their defensive coaching staff by bringing in Matt Pees as an analyst for advance and special projects. Pees, who previously served on the coaching staffs of the Atlanta Falcons and Tennessee Titans, will be responsible for analyzing offensive film of upcoming opponents.
Pees spent the last three years with the Falcons as a defensive assistant. Prior to that, he worked with the Titans for two seasons as a defensive assistant and quality control coach, focusing primarily on the defensive line. Before his time in the NFL, Pees gained valuable experience as a high school coach, accumulating eight years of coaching expertise.
In the previous season, the Atlanta Falcons’ defense showcased an impressive performance, recording 42 sacks, which ranked as the sixth-highest total in franchise history. This marked a significant improvement of 21 more sacks compared to their performance in the previous year (2022). Additionally, the Falcons’ defense led the NFL in terms of fewest penalty yards and allowed the second-fewest points in the second half, averaging just 7.9 points per game.
Drawing from a similar approach, the Chicago Bears made a notable addition to their coaching staff by bringing in Phil Snow, the former defensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers. Snow was hired to fulfill a comparable role, likely aiming to replicate the success he had in Carolina with the Bears’ defense.
