Michigan Scores Major Coaching Coup: Prominent Louisiana Defensive Coordinator Joins Wolverines’ Staff!

Sherrone Moore Lands Impressive Coaching Addition for Wolverines!

It seems that Michigan has secured their upcoming coach for the defensive backs position.

According to information from Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports, Michigan has enlisted the services of Lamar Morgan, the former defensive coordinator at Louisiana. Morgan is anticipated to take on the responsibility of coaching both cornerbacks and safeties.

What adds an intriguing element to Morgan’s hiring is his connection to former Michigan defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, with whom he previously coached at Vanderbilt. This connection suggests that Morgan should have a solid understanding of a significant portion of Michigan’s defensive scheme. Although Wink Martindale is now Michigan’s defensive coordinator, it is likely that Minter’s scheme, which was a variation of Martindale’s scheme with the Baltimore Ravens, will remain relatively unchanged.

In addition to his coaching roles at Louisiana and Vanderbilt, Morgan has also held positions at Western Carolina, UL-Monroe, and Houston. During his tenure as the defensive coordinator at Louisiana over the past two seasons, the defense recorded an impressive 28 interceptions, and in 2023, the unit led the nation in defensive touchdowns.

This continuity in defensive philosophy and Morgan’s track record of success further bolsters the potential impact of his hiring on Michigan’s defensive unit.
