Newcastle United Eyeing Double Championship Transfer Swoop

Newcastle United are looking to dip into the Championship’s pool of players this summer to strengthen their first-team squad ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, according to reports.

The Magpies endured a rather disappointing season, having managed to finish inside the top four last term, qualifying for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in two decades. However, despite a late surge in results, the Tyneside club ended the season in seventh place but missed out on Europe after Manchester United beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

Although the lack of European football is disappointing, head coach Eddie Howe will be keen to use this to the club’s advantage as it will give his players more time to recover during games. Nonetheless, the club must bolster the squad to prevent another injury crisis from plaguing St. James’ Park as it did midway through the 2023/24 campaign.

There are a number of players on the Newcastle United list this summer. As has been reported this weekend, the Geordie outfit are eyeing up a move for Blackburn Rovers‘ teenage sensation Rory Finneran, who became the club’s youngest-ever appearance maker when he made his debut in the FA Cup for the Lancashire side in a 5-2 win over Cambridge United back in January.

Finneran has yet to sign a professional contract with Blackburn and is increasingly likely to leave Ewood Park over the coming months as a number of clubs are circling like sharks for the 16-year-old, as per the Lancashire Telegraph.

The Irish youngster is not the only player from England’s second tier that Newcastle are keeping tabs on. West London Sport are claiming that the Magpies are keen to sign former Chelsea and Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic this summer as the Queens Park Rangers shot-stopper is a free agent at the end of June. However, the outlet are reporting that the veteran is set to sign a new deal to remain at Loftus Road.
