On Thursday, the Atlanta Braves experienced the departure of beloved player Jesse Chavez, who entered free agency. The 40-year-old relief pitcher reached an agreement with the Chicago White Sox on a minor league contract and will participate in big league Spring Training.
Chavez’s 2023 season with the Braves was cut short due to a shin injury, but he still impressively maintained a 1.56 ERA in 36 games. He anticipates that the upcoming 2024 season will be his last, and given the current depth of the Braves’ bullpen, it seems unlikely that he will return to Atlanta. However, considering the Braves’ history, there remains a slim possibility.
Joining the Chicago White Sox, Chavez now joins the likes of Michael Soroka, Nicky Lopez, Kevin Pillar, Touki Toussaint, Braden Shewmake, and Jared Shuster.
