Ibrox Buzz: Rangers Eyeing Promising Defensive Talent, Anticipating ‘Fantastic’ New Signing from Premier League Giants

We’re delighted to welcome former Ibrox star Derek Ferguson as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points in Govan…

Derek Ferguson thinks Liverpool youngster Owen Beck would be an “absolutely fantastic” signing for Rangers.

On January 4, Daily Mail journalist Simon Jones said the Light Blues had an approach knocked back the Reds for Beck, who was recalled back from a loan spell at Dundee at the beginning of the month.

Philippe Clement is reportedly keeping tabs on the left-back position with Ridvan YIlmaz facing an uncertain future, with Galatasaray said to be making him their “number one” target (Kutlu Akpinar, 22 January).

While a move for Beck still appears difficult to complete, former Rangers man Ferguson – speaking to Ibrox News – thinks he would be a great fit at the club.

He said: “Absolutely (he’s the right profile), that’s a no-brainer.

“The boy came up, I was going to say in a struggling Dundee side they’ve certainly not struggled, but one or two of their games they’ve been under the cosh, he’s been their shining light in that Dundee side so it’s clear to see he’s a right good player.

“If he came into a Rangers side, better players around him, I think he would really flourish, so in Rangers’ case if they could get him that would be an absolutely fantastic signing.

“We know with Ridman Yilmaz, the situation there there’s uncertainty, Barisic is out of contract at the end of the season, Barisic is a good player but his mentality’s always been brought into question in the big games.

“Yilmaz it’s taken him a long time to settle, he seems to at times have some injury problems but this young fella from Liverpool I think it would be a great addition to that Rangers side.”
