Newcastle United have eight days remaining in this January transfer window if they are to strengthen their side for the run-in. At the moment all the talk is of potential exits, with Kieran Trippier wanted by Bayern Munich, Miguel Almiron linked with a move to Saudi Arabia and questions over Joelinton’s future with the Brazilian currently injured.
While talk of potential exits is dominating proceedings, there’s still plenty of speculation about who may be coming in.
It is being reported by Italian news agency Calciomercato (CM) that Newcastle are interested in signing Teun Koopmeiners from Atalanta this month. A player already linked with Liverpool and Arsenal in the Premier League, as well as Serie A sides Juventus and Napoli, the defensive midfielder appears to be in high demand.
Newcastle’s interest is not out the ordinary, but the chances of them spending £34m (the reported transfer fee wanted) for a player this month seems very unlikely given the issues around FFP, unless that is Almiron goes for a similar amount. The 25-year-old Holland international is a quality player, but the fee wanted means this one is a deal unlikely to get done in January unless there is a number of late exits to pave the way.
Newcastle bid to beat Tottenham to signing
Tottenham Hotspur may have to battle it out with Newcastle United for the signing of young star Antonio Nusa from Club Brugge.
Nusa, an 18 year old forward, has been making waves in Belgium since his move from Norway’s Stabaek academy last August. He’s played in 27 games this season, scoring four goals and assisting three.
The youngster helped Club Brugge top their Europa Conference League group without losing a game. Now, he’s being tipped to make a big move to the Premier League.
Spurs were reported to be in talks with the player on Friday, hoping to add him to their January signings of Radu Dragusin and Timo Werner. They were even said to be in ‘pole position’ to secure a deal.
But no formal offer has been made yet, and now Newcastle are reportedly considering a ‘sensational hijack’ of Spurs’ pursuit, according to Football Insider.
