It is already clear that the Magpies need to sign someone better to play on the right of attack. While Miguel Almiron has done well, Newcastle have loftier ambitions.
Eddie Howe needs a major name to play alongside Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak, while the need to find an Almiron replacement could intensify over the next few days.
That is because he is being linked with a move away from St James’ Park. It has been claimed that a move has been discussed with Saudi Arabian club Al-Shabab, although there are conflicting reports regarding how Almiron feels about a departure.
A move away from Tyneside would lead to Toon fans pondering who the club could bring in to replace the Paraguayan, with Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White linked with arriving. However, Dan Ashworth will believe that Newcastle United already have the next Miguel Almiron waiting in the wings.
Yankuba Minteh will believe that he can be the Miguel Almiron replacement
During the summer of 2023, Newcastle United signed Yankuba Minteh from Odense BK. He arrived for £6million, and was immediately loaned out to Feyenoord.
The 19-year-old has been very impressive for Arne Slot’s side, leading to speculation that he could actually be recalled from his loan for the second half of the season.
It does not look like that will be happening, but Minteh will be keeping a close eye on what happens regarding Almiron’s future at St James’ Park.
That is because the Gambian teenager has previously likened himself to the 29-year-old, and will no doubt fancy his chances of taking his place in Eddie Howe’s team.
Minteh recently said: “I’m looking up to Miguel Almiron, a winger like myself, as I believe we have a similar playing style.”
The youngster believes his style is similar to Almiron’s, which could be ideal for Howe. He will obviously need to replace the Paraguay international should he leave, and getting Minteh involved in the first-team will be much cheaper than signing someone like Gibbs-White. In turn, that would mean there is money available to invest elsewhere in the squad.
If Minteh is the man to replace Almiron, it will not happen until next season. That is because Newcastle do not have the option to recall him from his loan. But he will likely be with Newcastle in pre-season, where he will get the chance to show Eddie Howe firsthand why he can make it look like Almiron never left at all.
