Marvin Johnson joined Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer following their relegation to League One in 2021.
The winger became a regular during their two-year stint in the third tier, netting five goals and providing 15 assists in 85 appearances before they won promotion back to the Championship.
Despite signing a new contract in the summer, Johnson was forced out of the first team following Xisco Munoz’s arrival. The 33-year-old was left out of the match-day squad all together for the first 13 games of the campaign, before the arrival of Danny Rohl sparked his revival.
Johnson has now started Sheffield Wednesday‘s last six league fixtures, with his versatility coming in handy as he has played all up the left flank in what has been a very successful period for The Owls.
Despite becoming an important player under Rohl, the Yorkshire outfit now face losing Johnson in the January window.
It was reported yesterday that Ipswich Town were interested in signing Johnson, and journalist Mike McGrath has now claimed that the promotion contenders have made a ‘bid’ to sign the veteran.
McGrath also reported that it would be a ‘dream move’ for Johnson, who is eager to play in the Premier League before he eventually retires.
It’s unclear how long Johnson’s contract extension was in the summer, but it seems likely that it could expire at the end of the current season.
While there is no indication how much Ipswich have bid for him, The Owls could be tempted to part ways instead of letting him leave for free. Though they may also be keen to see him put pen to paper on a new deal too.

Marvin Johnson has been a very important player under Danny Rohl, and his versatility has been very useful given Sheffield Wednesday’s lack of natural left-backs.
He would be especially vital if The Owls did drop back down to League One, but they may not want to argue with him if he decides to push for a move to Portman Road.
Ipswich Town do look very likely to land themselves a spot in the Premier League, and Johnson is really running out of time to play alongside the very best in England.
One thing is for sure – Sheffield Wednesday will have to bring in a new left-back if Johnson was to move on.
