The Newcastle midfielder recently spoke to the That’s Football YouTube channel alongside Joelinton, and was asked to name a Brazilian player who he would like to see arrive at St James’ Park.
Bruno Guimaraes went with Lucas Paqueta, who he became close friends with at Lyon.
Now they are both in the Premier League, with Paqueta signing for West Ham in 2022 for £51million.
His move to the London Stadium came after it had been reported that Newcastle would be willing to break their transfer record to bring the 26-year-old to the club. He was a major target for the Magpies that summer, and it was even claimed in 2023 that Eddie Howe’s side were considering a fresh approach.
For now, Paqueta is still a West Ham player, so Bruno’s dream of playing alongside him at club level will have to wait. But they do continue to represent Brazil together, and the pair have been reminiscing over an old video that has resurfaced on social media.
Bruno Guimaraes sends message to Lucas Paqueta on X
On Thursday, Paqueta retweeted a video of him scoring for Brazil. The goal was set up by Bruno, with the duo combining beautifully as they played keep ball with each other.
Alongside the video, he wrote: “Damn my friend.“
Bruno replied: “I miss you my friend!!! Thanks, I love you.“
Bruno would love Paqueta at Newcastle amid exit rumours
Bruno may miss Paqueta, but it is highly unlikely that the pair will be reunited at Newcastle United any time soon. There have been no suggestions that the Magpies are looking to sign him, while it would likely be an impossible deal to do from a financial perspective.
But while Bruno has always been vocal about wanting Paqueta to join him at Newcastle, a lot of rumours currently focus on him potentially leaving the club.
There have been a lot of reports about Newcastle cashing in on Bruno, while it was even suggested that he wants to leave.
Those claims feel like they are massively wide of the mark, but Bruno’s desire to stay at Newcastle would certainly increase if the owners could bring Paqueta in! But that is not going to happen, sadly.
