Simon Jordan believes Newcastle will NOT have to sell their best assets to navigate around FFP restrictions, feeling we’ll take a similar route to Chelsea by moving on sellable assets (who aren’t key parts of our future plans) at the right time.
There’s been a lot of conversation around FFP over the past week, with the importance of ‘player trading’ discussed by Darren Eales before Eddie Howe ruled out any big-money moves this month after links with Dominic Solanke.
As Jordan explaine on TalkSPORT, Newcastle will have at least £50m more to spend next season purely because of our Champions League status, along with a further “£50-60m of allowable adjustments”.
The media have immediately assumed that we’ll cash in on the likes of Bruno Guimaraes or Alexander Isak, but Jordan feels our ambitious owners will have no intention of taking a step back. Instead, he wonders if we’ll sell smart by offloading ageing assets (Callum Wilson? Miguel Almiron?) or look to make pure profit on academy graduates, Sean Longstaff, dare I say it?
He also wonders if we’ll follow Chelsea’ selling model by picking up young talents and selling them for profit. Who knows, perhaps this was part of our thinking when signing Harrison Ashby or even Garang Kuol? Watch what he had to say below:
