Leigh Leopards had been linked with a move for Brisbane Broncos fullback Tristan Sailor for over a month before Derek Beaumont dropped a bombshell on the reported move.
The interest from Leigh in the son of Wendall Sailor was widely reported and a move was expected to happen after Hull FC and other Super League clubs missed out on the promising youngster.
It was reported that the move was simply waiting on a visa being granted so when it was confirmed by League Scene that it had been granted, many expected an imminent signing but none was forth coming.
Then club owner Derek Beaumont took to social media to confirm the move would not be happening, but this doesn’t mean Leigh are finished in the transfer market.
The Leopards clearly want to add another marquee name to their ranks ahead of the new season and add some talent to their spine so it is likely that they assess further options in the NRL.
Could they have another look at Anthony Milford or perhaps someone like Adam Doueihi.
Either way, the club are gearing up towards a big season in 2024 as Adrian Lam said himself on the club’s website:
“To have achieved what we did on our first year as a promoted team in Super League was fantastic and we have set the bar high as a result for this year. However, we love a challenge and we believe we have built strongly and it’s my job to connect the new players to the squad and improve us as a team and I am really excited about that.
“The fixtures give us a really tough start with a home tie to Huddersfield who will no doubt be vastly improved from an off season together and looking to make an impact after what they will have deemed a disappointing year for themselves. We then hit the road with two extremely tough fixtures in Wigan and Saints before returning to the Den to face Leeds, another side that will have significantly benefited from an off season together and looking to stamp their authority on the competition.”
Can Leigh emulate their 2023 success in 2024? Time will tell.
