No sign of under fire 29-year-old player in Newcastle training ahead of Liverpool game

Newcastle United have released their latest set of training pictures ahead of their game against Liverpool on New Year’s Day, and one player is conspicuous by his absence.

The likes of Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes have been preparing for the upcoming game at Anfield, as Newcastle look to win there for the first time since 1994.

It is going to be a big ask, especially given how out of form Newcastle are and how well Liverpool are doing.

On top of that, it does not look like the Magpies are going to have any players back from injury. Eddie Howe was unable to provide a positive update on either Joe Willock or Harvey Barnes, who look set to continue their injury absence.

That is a blow, and the latest training pictures on the club’s official website are far from encouraging either

Howe did not mention Almiron during his pre-match press conference, but the fact he has not been spotted in training will have some people questioning whether or not he will be available for Monday night’s game against Liverpool.

The 29-year-old has started 11 games in a row for the Magpies, and is massively under fire from fans after a string of poor performances. The Paraguayan is enduring a worrying run of form that has seen him miss glaring chances against the likes of Everton and AC Milan, while he was taken off after 55 minutes during the Boxing Day defeat to Nottingham Forest.

There was no sign of an injury, so it is a mystery as to why he has not been spotted in training. It might be as simple as the camera not picking him up, rather than him now being a doubt for Liverpool.

The likes of Callum Wilson, Kieran Trippier and Jamaal Lascelles were also nowhere to be seen in any of the 26 photos that were uploaded to the club’s official website from Friday morning’s training session.
