American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson took to Instagram Live to address the ongoing social media attacks on her ex-girlfriend, former Jamaican sprinter Janeek Brown. Richardson, who had previously accused Brown of physical abuse during their relationship, admitted to making mistakes as well, acknowledging her own toxic behavior.
Richardson, speaking just hours before competing at the Prefontaine Classic, admitted that exposing personal details about her relationship was a mistake driven by her hurt. “I did go online and expose a part of my life that didn’t need to be exposed for the simple fact that I was hurt,” she said.
In a show of support for Brown, Richardson warned her followers to stop attacking her ex, stating, “I would never allow y’all to attack somebody that I love, despite what had happened.” She recognized that she had shared only one side of the story and called on social media users to cease their harassment, saying, “If you f%$k with her, you f%$k with me.”
