‘Too cocky’: Pundit says £12m Newcastle player is way too full of himself

The Newcastle full-back has had a run of terrible performances, and it’s been a real shame to see his performances dip in such a way.

There have been many potential explanations as for why Trippier has been so poor as of late, and speaking on Off The Ball, John Giles has shared why he thinks Trippier has been poor.

Indeed, according to the pundit, Trippier’s form has dropped off due to the fact he’s lost his confidence, claiming that he was a bit too cocky when he was at his best.

Trippier too cocky

Giles shared his verdict on the £12m man.

“Trippier is having a nightmare at the moment. It will be a bit down to tiredness, but I do find Trippier to be a very cocky boy. He’s up for corners and he’s up for this and that, and sometimes when you’re doing what he’s doing and doing it well you get a bit too cocky, and I think that’s what’s happened to him and his confidence has gone. He’s had a nightmare the last four or five matches, but he likes a bit too much of himself, too cocky at times,” Giles said.

Harsh

We can’t help but feel that this is very harsh.

Trippier has always been a confident player, fair enough, but to call him cocky is a bit far.

He’s never been a problem and by all accounts he’s a great leader behind the scenes at Newcastle.

Trippier is seemingly suffering a crisis in confidence at the moment, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he was too cocky when he was playing well.

Trippier is a player that we really like, and it’s sad to see him playing so poorly after such a fantastic 18 months for Newcastle.
