Vikings defensive backs Cam Bynum and Josh Metellus show fans the behind the scenes of their celebration.
The Minnesota Vikings continue to shock the world. After beating the New York Jets 23-17 in Week 5, the Vikings improved to 5-0. Only the Vikings and the Kansas City Chiefs are undefeated so far this season.
While Sam Darnold and the Vikings’ defense has earned opponents’ respect week after week, a celebration between cornerback Camryn Bynum and safety Josh Metellus stole the show last weekend. After Bynum picked off Aaron Rodgers (Rodgers’ second interception of the game), he and Metellus rushed to the end zone and busted out Lindsay Lohan’s handshake-dance in the 1998 film “The Parent Trap.”
While most celebrations are a spur of the moment thing, when the NFL relaxed its rules on celebrating, players have seized the opportunity to plan a celebration ahead of time with their teammates. Fans were blessed with funny moments like the Seattle Seahawks recreating the “Bye Bye Bye” dance in 2019 and the Pittsburgh Steelers playing hide-and-seek in 2017.
Today, Bynum and Metellus took fans behind the scenes by posting their rehearsal for the handshake-dance.
Bynum and Metellus have earned the right to celebrate. The two have become staples in the Vikings’ secondary. Bynum has 20 solo tackles, two INTS (tied for third) and five pass breakups while Metellus has 17 solo tackles, an INT and three PBU.
The Vikings’ defense as a unit has allowed an average of 330.2 yards per game but have only given up a total of nine TDS so far this season. They are the No. 2 run-stopping defense (67.2 yards and one rush TD allowed) and No. 4 scoring defense (15.2 points allowed per game).
The Purple and Gold will remain undefeated in Week 6 due to the team’s bye week. Aaron Jones, T.J. Hockenson and others will be able to get healthy and prepare for the Detroit Lions in Week 7.
