Former Sheffield Wednesday recruitment member Luke Dowling is not in the running to be the club’s head of recruitment.
According to the Sheffield Star, Dowling is ‘as it stands’, out of the running.
Dowling was at the club at the back end of the summer transfer window, as he helped the club see through the rest of the window, which resulted in signings like Newcastle midfielder Jeff Hendrick and Blackburn midfielder John Buckley joining on loan on deadline day.
He was a big help to former manager Xisco Munoz at the time in getting some signings over the line, with Wednesday’s squad looking weak in comparison to most sides in the Championship.
Danny Rohl on head of recruitment search
Manager Danny Rohl has recently spoken of his desire to get a head of recruitment, before the January transfer window.
He was quoted as saying: “It’s a key position for me.
“I’m in good communication at the moment with the chairman, we speak very often about this topic.
“Hopefully we will find a quick solution and then we can prepare for the January window. Everybody knows that this is important that we make this next step as a club. It’s been good for me to have the support and also the good feedback.”
The verdict
Head of recruitment is a job that Wednesday have been needing to fill for some time, since their last one, David Downes, departed in June for League One side Blackpool.
Wednesday’s recruitment over the summer was a bit lacklustre, with 12 players coming in, but most of those either being League One standard players, or players from abroad that had little to no experience in the English leagues.
So with that, it is probably best that owner Dejphon Chansiri and Rohl do not turn to a similar recruitment team to one they had in the summer.
