Former University of Texas star Alison Gibson and partner Krysta Palmer registered a second-place finish in the Women’s Synchronized Springboard final on Monday evening at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Diving at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center. The top tandem in the synchronized diving events at the U.S. Olympic Trials earns an automatic spot on the official Team USA roster.
The duo of Kassidy Cook and Sarah Bacon won the title in a field that included six entries with a cumulative score of 629.82. Gibson and Palmer registered a score of 599.49 to place second.
During the five dives of the morning preliminary rounds, Gibson and Palmer posted a score of 300.33 to rest in second place. The tandem of Cook and Bacon earned the top spot after prelims with a score of 311.95.
Scores from the morning’s preliminary rounds carried over to the evening’s final. Gibson and Palmer’s final session was highlighted by a score of 74.40 during the fourth of five rounds.
