Lewis Cox slams ‘massive’ Hull mistake despite ‘smart’ Jed Wallace for West Brom
Lewis Cox has praised Jed Wallace for his “smart” finish as he took advantage of a mistake from the Hull City defence to put West Brom 1-0 up.
The Express & Star journalist claimed the goal was gifted to the Baggies after a massive mistake from Jean-Michel Seri as the Tigers looked to play out from the back and were caught short.
Carlos Corberan’s side took the lead in the 14th minute with Wallace switched on to capitalise on the mistake and the team who thrive on playing at home will surely be grateful for that gift.
Sharing the update via his personal Twitter account, Cox wrote: “Massive Hull mistake playing it out from the back. Seri has it from the keeper Allsop but just passes it to Wallace inside the box.
“Space and time on goal but still a smart finish into the corner. A gift for the Baggies.”
Baggies looking to push on
Sometimes it takes an error to give you a foothold in a tightly contested game, and with West Brom’s home form, they will certainly be grateful for this error. When they go ahead at home, they very rarely lose.
Wallace, as well, will be pleased with the finish and his ability to take advantage. The Baggies have struggled for a consistent source of goals and he has been one of the players trusted with providing those in the absence of the key forwards at The Hawthorns.
For Hull, making a massive mistake in the early stages of a hotly contested game can often derail any plans they may have had, and there will certainly be some nerves as they play out from defence in the rest of the game.
While the Tigers won’t compromise the way they play, West Brom will now know they can press and force mistakes at the back. This could be the key to victory here and has worked fantastically in that first half.
