2021: Blackhawks Down Bolts in Shootout
On March 5, 2021, the Chicago Blackhawks secured a thrilling 4-3 shootout victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Despite the Lightning taking an early lead with goals from Anthony Cirelli and Alex Killorn, the Blackhawks quickly responded as Alex DeBrincat found the back of the net in the first period. DeBrincat continued his scoring spree with the lone goal in the second period. In the third period, Ryan McDonagh regained the lead for Tampa Bay, but the Blackhawks fought back as Dominik Kubalik scored to level the game.
In the shootout, Philipp Kurashev netted the decisive goal, while Blackhawks’ goaltender Malcolm Subban made an impressive 39 saves throughout the game and stopped all three Lightning attempts in the shootout, securing the home victory for Chicago.
