Hammers Midfielder Excited For Lincoln City Reunion

Former Lincoln City loanee Conor Coventry is “relishing” the opportunity to return to the club for tonight’s EFL Cup match, as confirmed via his interview with the club’s website.

The 23-year-old spent time with the Imps during the Covid-19 outbreak in what was his first senior loan spell in football, but now he’s set to return ahead of tonight’s meeting between the two sides.

His time at the club

Coventry arrived at Sincil Bank on loan during the 2019/20 season but was limited to just seven first-team appearances before the EFL season was curtailed due to the outbreak of Covid-19 in March 2020.

After arriving in January 2020, Coventry made his debut against Shrewsbury Town in a 1-1 draw. The Irishman then featured against the likes of Ipswich Town and Portsmouth before his spell came to a premature conclusion.

Can the Imps secure another giant killing?

Lincoln City produced one of the shocks of the EFL Cup so far when they beat Premier League side Sheffield United on penalties to set up their tie against West Ham United this evening.

The Imps began the competition with a routine 2-0 victory against League Two side Notts County courtesy of goals from Sean Roughan and Lasse Sørensen.

What’s been said?

Speaking to the West Ham United website, midfielder Conor Coventry stated…

It was a great experience for me at Lincoln, it was my first loan, my first experience of real first team football.

I wasn’t there too long because of COVID, but I really enjoyed it. It’s a good club with a really good following and fanbase, with good people there who made me feel welcome and helped me out.

Speaking about tonight’s match, Coventry went on to add…

“I know a few of the boys there and they have some really talented players. I know the way they want to play is in a good style and it will be a tough game. They’ve had a good start to the season so it should be a good test.”
