Aston Villa’s Europa Conference League opener against Legia Warszawa is the “perfect opportunity” for Alex Moreno to return to the starting line-up, according to Ty Bracey.
The Spaniard was witness to a stunning late comeback at Villa Park on the weekend as the Villans left it late to score three goals and bury Crystal Palace’s chance to break his side’s eight-game unbeaten home record, but did not make it onto the pitch.
Moreno picked up a hamstring injury in Villa’s clash against Liverpool towards the end of last season, forcing him to miss pre-season with negociate nearly four months on the sidelines. Considering Lucas Digne’s exceptional form since the start of this campaign, Unai Emery may be hard-pressed to drop the Frenchman.
However, Bracey has pointed to the Legia Warzawa clash as an ideal chance for the 30-year-old to get competitive minutes into his legs once again while praising Villa’s deep squad depth which allows for adequate replacements amid a congested calendar.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “I think it’s important that he gets minutes and what a perfect opportunity. It’s a few days after the [Crystal Palace] game, so it’s good that we’ve got depth in that position.
“It’s a nice problem to have. I’m always grateful that we’re in a position where we can’t be dead certain about our starting 11.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Moreno start in Europe on Thursday.”
